Trekker Caddy TC3 push cart an early success in 2010 - Golf Equipment Examiner
Steve Pike
One of the great success stories in 2010 (there aren’t many) has to be Trekker Caddy Company. The Pomona, Calif., based company, whose founders include some former executives at Nickent Golf, have sold more than 5,000 Trekker TC3 Freestyle push carts in the past five months – impressive for a company still in a “soft launch’’ mode. First off, I’m not really the type of person to walk a course but when I got the Trekker cart I had to go out of my way to do so. My local course is a very walk able golf course. There are no hills, nothing so I attempted it.This thing is a breeze to assemble and when I timed it, it took me less than 2 minutes. Mind you, that was opening the box, peeling the plastic off, unzipping the bag. First thought was “How in the world is that little thing going to carry my bag?” Well, open it up fold down the Back to the Future wheels, snap and click and you’re well on your way. Second thing was, I wasn’t embarrassed to push it around, it actually is very stylish. There are other carts to choose from out there but once you use this, the others will never have a place carrying your bag. It maneuvers very well, its very light and the ease to get around is second to none. The funny part about this cart is that it’s made me walk my local course 6 times since then and if you know me, I refuse to walk a course. What I’ve notice in the difference between this one and the others is how it promotes pushing instead of pulling like I see so many people still doing. That makes it easier on the body and you’re not tired going into your shot. This thing only weighs 15 pounds max so you will have no problem pushing this around. It comes in 5 different colors (black, red, white, silver, and yellow). It comes with a handy holder for your umbrella. Score card holder, bag for balls, another compartment for who knows what but it’s good to have! All in all, these guys have a great product and you’ll enjoy it once you try one.
"The TC3 has been in development for the two years,'' Trekker Caddy Co. marketing director Jon Claffey, who helped launch equipment companies Sonartec and Nickent. "We believe we've made the best-performing push cart on the market. I think we're' going to change the landscape of the push cart market.''
Indeed. All one needs to do is take the TC3 for a test spin to know it's not like any other push cart. First, it's light - weighing only around 15 pounds - thanks to its aircraft grade aluminum tubing structure. Second, you don't have to fight the TC3 to fold and unfold. The entire process can be done in only a few seconds and the TC3 even comes with its own carry bag.
On the course, the TC3 (suggested retail price $189) is easy to manuever because it's constructed on a low, flat, reinforced sub-frame. This design, according to Claffey, delivers the lowest possible center of gravity and an equal distribution of load across the three wheels for better stability free-rolling action, meaning a player doesn’t have to worry about losing his or her bag getting up and down hills.
"It's the best-balanced push cart out there,'' Claffey said."It's made for people who like to walk.''
Perhaps best, the TC3 could make walkers out of more golfers.
